In the eleventh year since the founding of the Republic of Somerland, Amelia Clover was compelled to wed Geoffrey Hunt, a military commander well beyond fifty years of age. This union, as a concubine, was a means to settle her adoptive father’s substantial gambling debts. Unbeknownst to Geoffrey, Amelia’s heart belonged to another, Marshal Clayton Hunt, who upon learning of the marriage, rushed back to confront Amelia about her supposed betrayal. In a tragic turn of events, the military commander stumbled upon this confrontation and, in a fit of rage, shot Clayton, leading to his untimely death.
